Job Description

The Voorheesville Central School District anticipates one opening for a full-time probationary Payroll Specialist in the District Office. This position is subject to Albany County Civil Service regulations.

Possible Duties

1. Maintain payroll data;
2. Assists employees with problems concerning payroll, bereavements, jury duty, etc.;
3. Resolves any errors in employee’s paycheck and reissues payment checks;
4. Processes, records and files a variety of control records and payroll reports, for ledgers and claims;
5. Compiles fiscal data and assists in preparing reports for financial statistical and budget purposes.

Job Qualifications

1. Graduation from an accredited college or university with at least an Associate’s Degree in Accounting, Business Administration or Business Management and one (1) year of paid experience in the maintenance of financial accounts and records; OR Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and three (3) years of paid experience involving the application and explanation of rules, procedures and policies regarding the preparation and processing of payroll records.
2. Knowledge of Windows, Work and Excel or must be willing to be trained;
3. Ability to conduct payroll calculation procedures and time keeping tasks;
4. Excellent communication and organizational skills;
5. Ability to be flexible and adjust easily to change;
6. Must be highly confidential;
7. Subject to Albany County Civil Service regulations.
