Job Description

The Voorheesville Central School District has an opening for a Building Maintenance Mechanic. This twelve month position is for a semi-skilled worker involving responsibility for independently performing a variety of mechanical and other building maintenance tasks as needed. This individual will work under the immediate supervision of the Head Custodian and the overall supervision of the Director of Facilities II. 

Typical Work Duties

1.  Perform semi-skilled work in masonry, carpentry, electrical or painting operations. Examples of work include, but are not limited to: helps install and repair wiring systems and electric fixtures and equipment; repairs windows, doors, floors, walls; interior and exterior painting; helps to install and repair general plumbing equipment; operates trucks and other motorized equipment; shovels snow and applies ice/snow removal products to surfaces

2.  Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Job Qualifications

1. High school graduate, applicable training beyond high school a plus.
2. Willingness to work as needed.
3. Neat appearance (uniform required).
4. Good knowledge of modern buildings and grounds maintenance and repair practices.
5. Valid NYS driver’s license required.
6. Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
7. Background check and fingerprint clearance (as required by law).
8. Two (2) years of experience in either general building construction or maintenance work in one or more of the standard trades, such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical, or grounds keeping.
