Building Maintenance/Custodial Worker

The Position

The Voorheesville Central School District has an immediate opening for a Building Maintenance/Custodial Worker.  The hourly wage for this position will be based on the UEV contract’s salary schedule.  This person will work under the immediate supervision of the Head Custodian.

General Duties

1. Work as Custodial Worker includes routine cleaning and semi-skilled maintenance tasks and related work as required.  Examples of work include, but are not limited to:  sweeps, mops and waxes floors; washes walls, windows and blackboards; cleans lavatories and locker rooms; assists with snow removal; empties wastebaskets and disposes of rubbish; makes minor repairs to furniture, electrical fixtures, and other equipment. 

2. Work as Maintenance Worker includes performing semi-skilled work involving responsibility for independently performing a variety of mechanical and other building maintenance tasks as needed.  Examples of work include, but are not limited to:  perform semi-skilled work in masonry, carpentry, electrical or painting operations; help install and repair wiring systems and electric fixtures and equipment; repair windows, doors, floors; interior and exterior painting; help to install and repair general plumbing equipment; operates trucks and other motorized equipment. Experience in sports field maintenance, snow removal and lawn care beneficial.

3. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

4. Hours:  Generally M-F (6:00a.m.-2:30p.m.), some weekends, as needed.

The Voorheesville Central School District has a current opening for a Substitute Custodial Worker.  The duties of a Custodial Worker include routine cleaning, semi-skilled maintenance tasks, and related work as required.  The position will be under the supervision of the Custodial Work Supervisor II.  

Examples of Custodial Worker duties include, but are not limited to:

Sweeps, mops and waxes floors

Washes walls, windows and blackboards

Cleans and mops lavatories and locker rooms

Assists with snow removal

Replaces light bulbs, towels, toilet tissue, soap and other supplies

Empties wastebaskets and disposes of rubbish

Makes minor repairs to furniture, electrical fixtures, windows and window shades, locks, faucets,    

heating system and other equipment

Receives, moves and stores incoming school supplies

Turns off lights and locks doors

Performs a variety of errands and related custodial duties as needed
